Cup week is the one week of the year when all of Melbourne dresses for the occasion. The outfit has been planned for weeks, the hat has been argued over, the table is booked. And then, usually the week before, someone asks the question that should have been asked first: how are we actually getting there?

This guide covers how a race-day car booking works with Prestige Luxury Rentals, which cars suit which kind of day, and why Cup week is the one time of year we'll always steer you towards a chauffeur.

The 2026 Cup Week Dates

Flemington's Cup week runs across four race days. Derby Day is Saturday 31 October, Melbourne Cup Day is Tuesday 3 November, Oaks Day is Thursday 5 November and Stakes Day is Saturday 7 November. Cup Day is also a public holiday across metropolitan Melbourne, which means the roads, the trains and the rideshare queues are all doing the same thing at the same time.

Every one of those days books like a Saturday in peak season. Cup Day books like the busiest Saturday of the year.

Why Race Day Is a Chauffeur Day

We run self-drive and chauffeured bookings every week of the year, and most of the time we'll happily talk you through either. Race day is different, for three reasons.

First, the champagne. If anyone in the car plans to have a drink at the track, nobody in your group should be driving home. Second, the arrival. The whole point of the day is that you step out looking exactly how you planned to look, not after a hike from a distant car park in heels. Third, the end of the day. When the last race finishes, thousands of people leave at once. A chauffeur collecting you at an agreed time is a very different experience to joining the queue.

Every chauffeured booking includes the car detailed to show standard the morning of service, a professional chauffeur in appropriate dress, chilled water in the cabin, and fuel, tolls and standard parking. You plan the outfit. We plan the drive.

The Cars That Book for Spring Racing

The Cars That Book for Spring Racing
CarBest for
Rolls-Royce GhostThe classic race-day arrival for a couple or a small group
Rolls-Royce CullinanLarger parties, and more room for outfits that don't fold
Mercedes G63 (black or white)The visible arrival, popular with groups of friends
Lamborghini Urus SSupercar presence with room for four
Mercedes BrabusFor clients who have done the Rolls and want something rarer
McLaren GTA more contemporary arrival than a Rolls-Royce

The Ghost is the default answer for event chauffeur work, and it's the car most race-day bookings start with. If your group is bigger, or the outfits are, the Cullinan is the step up. If the brief is "we want people to notice", it's the G63 or the Urus S.

How a Race-Day Booking Works

Tell us the race day, how many people are travelling, where you're starting from and where the night is likely to end. We'll match the car to the group and lock in a pickup time that gets you through the gates without rushing.

Your chauffeur collects you from home, a hotel or a pre-race brunch, drops you at the course, and returns at the time you've agreed. Plenty of clients book the car through to the evening as well, because the day rarely ends at the track. Crown Melbourne is the natural next stop, with dinner at Nobu or Rockpool, the Mahogany Room, or straight up to Crown Towers. Your chauffeur takes you on, waits or returns as arranged, and gets you home at the end of it.

Making a Week of It

Cup week brings a lot of interstate and international visitors into Melbourne, and many of our race-day bookings are part of something bigger. Rolls-Royce Ghost and Cullinan lead our chauffeured arrivals at Melbourne Airport, with flight tracking and luggage handled. Our concierge team can then pull the rest of the week together: luxury accommodation through our partner stays, dinner reservations at the venues that don't take online bookings, and a self-drive supercar for the days between race meets.

For the ultimate arrival, our concierge team can also arrange helicopter landings at the Flemington infield on Cup Day, subject to availability. Major-event landings need far more notice than a standard helicopter booking, so ask about it now rather than on the Monday.

Book Early, and We Mean It

Chauffeur work books out faster than self-drive because every booking needs a driver rostered, not just a car. In peak season we recommend booking event chauffeurs four to eight weeks ahead, and the Melbourne Cup Carnival is one of the handful of dates on the calendar that books months in advance.

If you're reading this in October, some cars will already be committed for Cup Day. Call us anyway. We'll tell you straight what's still available, and if Cup Day itself is tight, Derby Day, Oaks Day and Stakes Day are each worth asking about.

FAQ

Can I self-drive to the races?

You can, but if anyone in the car is drinking at the track, book a chauffeur. It's the safer call and the better day. Drivers under 25 are chauffeur-only across our whole fleet regardless of the occasion.

How far ahead should I book for Melbourne Cup Day?

As early as you can. Cup Carnival dates book months ahead for chauffeured cars. If your date is close, call and we'll tell you exactly what's left.

Can the car take us on to dinner after the races?

Yes. Many race-day bookings continue to Crown Melbourne or a restaurant in the city. Tell us the plan when you book so the chauffeur's timing is built around it.

Which car suits a group of four?

The Lamborghini Urus S if you want supercar presence, the G63 for the classic group arrival, or the Rolls-Royce Cullinan if comfort and space come first.

What does a chauffeured race-day booking include?

The car detailed to show standard on the morning, a chauffeur in appropriate dress, chilled water in the cabin, and fuel, tolls and standard parking. Bookings are quoted on the car, the day and the hours you need.
