Most formal car enquiries come from the student. Most formal car bookings are made by a parent. That's exactly how it should be, because the questions a parent asks are the ones that matter: who is driving, what happens on the night, and what we do if something doesn't go to plan.

This guide is written for parents. It covers how Prestige Luxury Rentals runs formal bookings, the safety standards every formal chauffeur meets, which cars students actually ask for, and how far ahead you need to book.

Every Formal Booking Is Chauffeured

There is one rule we don't bend on formals: every booking is chauffeur-driven. No exceptions. Across our entire fleet, drivers under 25 cannot self-drive, and that applies to formal night the same as any other night.

For parents, that rule is usually the moment the decision gets easy. Your child gets the Lamborghini moment. A professional driver gets the responsibility.

Who Is Driving Your Child

Every chauffeur on a formal booking holds a current Working With Children clearance and commercial passenger vehicle accreditation, and has five-plus years of passenger work experience. Formal chauffeurs are also briefed specifically on formal-night protocol before the booking.

That protocol is simple and strict:

  • No alcohol in the cabin
  • Direct pickup and drop-off only, no unplanned stops
  • Parental contact if any issue comes up on the night

You'll know where the car is going before it arrives, and you'll be the first call if anything changes.

The Photo Moment

Formal pickup is a photography moment, and our drivers know it. Standard service includes 20 minutes at pickup for photos, so the family, the date and the neighbours all get their shot before the car leaves.

Build that 20 minutes into your timeline and you won't be rushing the one part of the night every parent wants on their phone.

The Cars Students Ask For

The Cars Students Ask For
CarWhy it gets booked
Lamborghini Huracán (white or purple)The most-requested formal car in our fleet
Mercedes G63Strong for groups arriving together
Lamborghini Urus SWhen three or four students want to arrive in the same car
Ferrari 488 GTBFor the student who wants classic Italian
Rolls-Royce GhostIncreasingly requested for something understated

The white Huracán is the photo car. It looks right in every frame, and it's the single most common answer to "which car do you want?". The purple Huracán is the rarer one for students who want something nobody else will turn up in.

Single Car or Group Package

Most formal bookings are a single car for the student and their partner. The other common format is a group arrival, where friends combine into one larger car or a small convoy. Group packages save against booking each car individually, and a group arrival tends to produce better photos anyway.

If your child's friends are already talking about arriving together, it's worth having one parent coordinate a single group booking rather than four families booking four separate cars.

When to Book

Year 12 formals peak in October and November across Melbourne, Sydney and the Gold Coast, and the most-requested cars on the most popular dates sell out six to eight months ahead. The G63 in particular is a formal favourite that books six months or more out.

For a formal this season, call now. We'll tell you exactly what's available on your date, and if the first-choice car is gone, we'll suggest the closest alternative honestly. For next year's formal, the best time to book is the day the school confirms the date.

Questions Worth Asking Any Formal Car Provider

Whoever you book with, ask these before you pay a deposit:

  • Is every formal booking chauffeur-driven?
  • Does the driver hold Working With Children clearance and commercial passenger accreditation?
  • Is there a no-alcohol rule in the car?
  • Who contacts me if something goes wrong on the night?
  • How much time is allowed for photos at pickup?

At Prestige Luxury Rentals the answers are yes, yes, yes, you, and 20 minutes.

FAQ

Can my 18-year-old drive the car themselves?

No. Drivers under 25 are chauffeur-only across our fleet. Every formal booking is chauffeur-driven, no exceptions.

What's the rule on alcohol in the car?

The rule is no alcohol in the cabin. The chauffeur's job is a direct, safe pickup and drop-off, and parents are contacted if any issue comes up.

Can the car collect from one house and pick up a partner on the way?

Tell us the full plan when you book. Formal bookings run on a confirmed route of pickups and drop-offs, so every stop is agreed in advance.

Which car is best for photos?

The white Lamborghini Huracán is the most photogenic and the most requested. The purple Huracán is the rarer choice.

How far ahead do formal cars book out?

The most popular cars on peak dates go six to eight months ahead. Lock in your date as soon as the school confirms it.
